Why I quit photography to build a typographic engine

It all started about 2 years ago went I decided to leave square space. My portfolio was fine, but it misses some edge. I was not sure how to put a finger on what was it that I didn’t like. But it just felt it was not my website.

It has been 12 years that I was doing photography as a professional full time in my city. I was mostly doing adveertising and corporate. The business made me work with a lot of talented designer and I had the chance to work with what I would call taste. Not in the terms of beautfill, but in term of what work and what dont generally speaking. Art might be seen as some sort of black magic only for talented people but actually, most of the talented persone follow simple yet powerfull rules that works. Think about the golden rules, the thrid grid, composition rules. Those rules that we like to say are made to be broken. Well I dont know about that. I still feel they are not followed enough. And most of the time, broking the rules is just a hidden way of saying I dont get the rules so I just decided to do what I want. I dont have or a least, I know when to brake the rules.

Generally speaking, everything is about storry telling. You want to sell something, tell a story about it. You want to sell a picture, give it with the story on how you actually came up to that picture. It is whats feel the void. You dont just buy a concept, a logo or get a specific photographer, you get yourself the story that comes with it. Why…. and that I’ve been asking myself that for too long

From time to time you get those post about what I would of like to know at the start of my carreer. Well, it would be that the civilisation started when we started to learn. How did we learn… we were not yet able to draw, let alone write with an alphabet. All that we could do was talk and share our knowledge by communication pure and simple. One thing came up quite fast tho…. some where better to get their information passed on. How to pass on the knowledge to younger generation. By passing them by story. Thats where our legends cames. Now people got to remember the information. It is today, actually still the same idea. Do not sell the product, sell the story that comes up with.

By the time you want to applied that to your work. There is a helephant in the house. Social media as of today is just plain ugly. Sorry for being real here but it does not help in any way to pass on the story we are trying to say to the word. THe only major one I know would be medium.com as they have some sort of minimalist design and so it’s easier to come up with focus. But how should I hope that my photo dnot necessarly get the atention they deserve, but at leat dont get destructed by a design thought so much on their brands, their ads and on the like that we dont post for us anymore, we post for the other.
