4.4 Artisan Tricks
A black and white woodcut style illustration of a leather tool roll laid out on a stump, containing a chisel, a knife, and a mallet.
A master carver does not waste motion. He knows the exact weight of his hammer, the angle of his chisel, and how to carry his timber when the season ends.
A craftsman does not fight his tools. He works with them until they feel like an extension of his own hand. Once you have built your workshop and chosen your wood cuts, you learn the small, quick motions that keep your work clean.
Checking the Raw Grain
When you look at a beautifully planed table, you might want to see the raw, rough-cut timber underneath to understand how the joints fit.
At any time, you can flip the wood over (accessing the Raw view). You see the raw Markdown code—plain, unadorned text without styles. Your writing is never locked behind thick veneers or glued into the frame. You can always see the honest grain.
Gathering Your Timber (Export)
When the snows come, or if you decide to move your homestead to a new valley, you do not leave your timber behind.
You can gather all your logs (current note or your entire garden) and pack them into a single bundle to carry on your shoulder. Because the files are simple, plain text, you can open them at any other campsite, using any other workbench, now or in fifty years. Your garden is yours to take, wholesale.
Carving the Mark (Deep Linking)
If you wish to show a friend a single beautiful knot in a tree trunk on the other side of the valley, you do not tell him to walk the whole trail and look at every branch.
You carve a small arrow pointing directly to that specific grain (Deep Linking). When he walks the trail, the path draws his eyes directly to the exact line you marked, highlighting the spot immediately.
Gardener’s Note: For the technical implementation of deep linking protocols, fragment selector formats, and ZIP export tools, consult the [Client & CLI Reference](file:///Users/francisfontaine/Documents/GitHub/utopie/apps/stnd.build/modules/manual/content/5-reference/5.4-client-cli-reference.md) and [Deep Linking Spec](file:///Users/francisfontaine/Documents/GitHub/utopie/apps/stnd.build/modules/manual/content/5-reference/5.5-deep-linking-reference.md) in the Manual.
